"La Maria" from The Sewing Room

07.04.12 Ember Schrag The Sewing Room CD Release:

Single Girl Married Girl and our sister label Edible Onion are excited to deliver to you Ember Schrag's newest album, The Sewing Room.  After a multitude of EPs, compilation appearances and one full length album, Ember and her collaborators have forged an album of spare, carefully adorned, severe songs; at once desolate and personal. The lyrics quietly reflect an isolated youth in the western plains of Nebraska as the stories of the Old Testament are delicately reconstructed as a somber, secular biography. Happiness, pain, and virtue are eerily tied to ancient tales of sacrifice and belief.

The Sewing Room CD is now available for pre-order and will be officially released on July 10th, 2012. For the collector of fine objects, Edible Onion has also prepared a limited run of 100 handmade art books to accompany the album, available on

Ember Schrag will be playing a Philadelphia album release show at the Greenline Cafe (45th and Locust) on July 12th, 2012 with Single Girl Married Girl artists Snow Caps and Scott Churchman as well as Bad Heart Bull on tour from Columbus, Ohio.

The Sewing Room (2012)

Sparsely decorated songs about family, honesty and memories are draped in an anachronistic gauze as characters and language from the Old Testament wend through the barren landscapes of western Nebraska. A lap steel swelling up and a cello scratching. Stark, painful and comforting like only something really, really real can be.
